5 Things You Should Trust Your Wedding Photographer With

Trust is the key ingredient to any relationship, and the relationship you have with your wedding photographer is no exception. There's a reason you chose them (us!) to capture the most important day of your life. While you may have a vision of how you want some of your images to turn out, for the most part, you are going to have to put a lot of trust in me and Sean. Trusting us a little more in these areas will not only result in better images for you to remember your big day, but will also relieve you of some stress as well.

             1. Choosing the Location of the Shot

Sean and I put a lot of time into researching your venues, and will have taken the time to familiarize ourselves with your reception location and areas around your ceremony site to find the best places to photograph. I will have already stalked everyone’s Instagrams and set up site meetings with your day of coordinator. This gives us a good idea of how the properties will look (light, blooms, obstructions, etc) during your day, and which areas will be the most scenic for your photos.

            2. Time of Day to Shoot

I know I’ve said the word “trust” a lot already, but TRUST me on this one - Lighting is key to creating beautiful images and using the natural light of the sun will produce the best lighting setting but that doesn't mean any time of the day will give you the same results. Sean will have spent many hours looking at what I call his “sun map”, and will know exactly how the sun will hit each area of your venues while we are there. giving us the ability to take those gorgeous outdoor shots that won't leave harsh shadows on your face, or when to sneak outside to take some night inspired shots.

          3. Poses

Trust us to know what pose is the most flattering for you. We can see how the light is illuminating you and what is in the background. While we will happily take into consideration your picture ideas, you shouldn't be offended if we suggest other ideas. Most times we’ll be working with limited time and light and you don't want to waste much of either on your big day.

            4. Editing Your Photos

Trust our creative eye during the editing process. We will know which images will look best in black and white, color, cropped and which ones to add special effects to, if any. Part of the editing process is a part of our style and this is one of the reasons you hired us. Trust Sean and I to use our skills to make each image stunning. This also means - please, please don’t put filters on your images after we deliver them to you.

            5. Handling The Printing of Your Photos

Sean and I have been working with our for lab for several years, and trust their print quality implicitly. They are reputable, fairly priced, and the best part is how easy the ordering process is. You can do it right from your phone, and they will come directly to your door. Our lab prints “true to color”, so what you see on the screen is what you’ll see when you open your package. The worst thing you can do is have a stunning image, order a large print and find the colors are off, the image is blurred or it simply looks dull. Knowing where to get your prints made, what size they should be done in and which ones will look best in your albums, wall art or thank you cards is part of the package you get when you hired a us. We even have the ability to show you what your prints will look like right on your walls. Trust us to help you with your printed products.

What's In A Name? | Northern Virginia Photographer

Hello everyone!!

I am sure that if you are here, you have questions about our name change! I’ll do my best to outline answers to questions I anticipate coming our way, but if you have any additional questions, please feel free to drop them in the comments or shoot me an email at amanda@seanpurcellphotography.com

Q- Why did you guys change the name?

A- We have always worked together as a team, both on shoots and behind the scenes, and wanted the name of the company to really reflect that.

Q- Is your email address changing?

A- Yes, however, we will be slowly migrating the old email into the new one. For now, you can email either the old domain, or the new one, and they will end up in the same place. On Jan 1, the old email addresses will no longer be active, so we ask that you update your records before then.

Q- Are your services changing?

A- NO. We will still be offering all types of portrait sessions, wedding collections and product photography, the same as we have been.

Q- What about my gallery?

A- Our gallery service will be the last to change over, but yes, that will result in some broken links. I will try to reach out to everyone via email with a new link to access your gallery, but in the meantime, feel free to email us regarding your gallery link.

Megan and Jarred | Happy Anniversary | Loudoun County Photographer

It happened to be Megan and Jarred’s 5 year wedding anniversary the afternoon we shot with them, and lemme tell ya. They were AMAZING in front of the camera. Other photographers are always such naturals in front of the camera, and their romance was glowing in every shot.

Whenever I look at their photos, the song “Golden” by Lady Antebellum comes to mind. Between the golden light and their loving shining, it’s not hard to see why.

Taking Details to the Next Level | AKP Jazzy Retreat | Northern Virginia Photographer

Back in March, I had the privilege to attend my fourth AKP Retreat. One of these days I’ll get the first three blogged, but for now I want to share a bit about my time in New Orleans with you.

Each retreat that I have attended has been such an incredible experience, and all four have been so different from each other, that it’s impossible to pick a favorite. But this one, dubbed “AKP Jazzy”, spoke to me on so many levels. Maybe it was the content – we spent quite a bit of time learning how to elevate our detail shots, which is something I love to do. Maybe it was the size of the group – as the smallest retreat yet, we were all able to truly connect with each other on such a deep level, I left truly feeling like I had gained new sisters. Or perhaps it was because it was Ashton’s last retreat, and we all felt the need to really soak up every minute of each other, of the learning, of the experience as a whole, knowing that we probably would not get a chance to do this ever again.

D.C. Garden Glam | A Styled Shoot | Northern Virginia Wedding Photographer

All events are a wonderful collaboration of vendors, coming together to bring our clients vision to life. Styled shoots aren’t much different, other than the fact that there’s not really a designated client. Someone, be it an event planner, a photographer, florist or other creative, gets an idea in their head and works to bring it to life.

Spring Flower Workshop | Northern Virginia Photographer

As someone who has been around flowers her entire life in one way or another, it’s pretty clear I have a deep love for them. So when I heard that Julie Abrera, from Beaumont House Design, was hosting a Spring Floral Workshop, I jumped at the chance to photograph it!!

1.jpg

Julie loves flowers even more than I do and when she’s not foraging for local treasures or working those finds into her designs, she’s hosting workshops several times throughout the year. I was lucky enough to take one of her workshops awhile back, and was blown away by the experience.  I knew that this one would prove to be just as amazing, and I was right!!

2.jpg

Elizabeth Mock, the owner of Modern Mercantile in Berryville VA, was kind enough to open her doors to Julie and her attendees, and I have to say, the space was absolutely perfect!! Her store is utterly darling, and I definitely recommend stopping in if you find yourself in Clarke County. I picked up a gorgeous necklace and spent some time drooling over her terrarium building station!

3.jpg

All of the women who took part in the workshop did an incredible job , creating their centerpieces. Watching each woman select blooms and bring their vision to life was a pretty cool thing to witness. You could see the pride and excitement build and their flowers came together, and even more impressive was how every arrangement turned out so different from the one next to it.

Be sure to sign up for Julie’s newsletter and follow Beaumont House Design on Facebook so that you don’t miss out on the next workshop!

Her amazing Gingerbread Butterscotch cookie is the one that started it all (and currently MY personal fave, you can read my review of it on our Facebook page) when her fiancé insisted that she could make a killing selling them. It's currently her best seller, though several of her other flavors are developing quite a following. There is a gentleman who makes a point to visit her every Wednesday evening for a couple bags of her Salted Chocolate Peanut Butter cookies. I've had them, and I definitely can't blame him. Local Spotlight | Greenheart Juice | Northern Virginia Photographer

A couple weeks ago, I blogged about my visit to the Wednesday Farmer's Market here in Leesburg. I met a bunch of awesome people, and I promised you I'd showcase some of their amazing businesses.

It started out as a community awareness, supporting other local businesses venture, but the more I chatted with everyone, the more intrigued I was by their stories.
